Finding the right laptop battery

The easiest way to find the correct laptop battery for your machine is to check the part number written on it. Thankfully laptop battery replacement and removal are relatively easy at least in the case of external batteries and usually just involves releasing 1 or 2 catches near the battery.

When you have removed the laptop battery the part number is normally found on the base. If you are unable to identify the battery you need, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to assist you. If possible, please have the model and serial of the laptop to hand as this makes the search far easier.

What should I do if my laptop battery is swollen or leaking?

If a battery is swollen or leaking it is important to stop using the laptop immediately. Leaking laptop batteries are a safety hazard and should be handled with care.

When removing the battery from the laptop, first turn off the machine and disconnect the power. If available safety gloves and goggles are recommended.

Can I overcharge my laptop battery?

If the correct adapter is used modern lithium-Ion laptop batteries will not overcharge. Once the battery reaches 100% it will not charge further until the voltage drops back below a certain level.

However, it is important to consider that leaving your laptop plugged in all the time and the battery at 100% charge can reduce the lifespan of the battery.

How do I store my laptop battery if I won’t be using it for a while?

It is best to store the battery in a cool, dry place. Extremely high or low temperatures can damage the cells. Before storing charge, the battery to around 50-70% of its capacity. This will help to prevent the battery from discharging entirely as this can damage the cells.
