We would like to wish the best of luck to Millie and everyone at Stowford School taking part in this year’s Readathon.

Millie, 6, is the niece of Tekeurope’s Engineering Manager Stuart Blacklock. Stuart brought the event to the attention of everyone at Tekeurope and now the company itself, along with several members of staff individually, have donated.

What is Readathon?

Readathon is organised by Read for Good in collaboration with UK schools as part of their vision for “children in the UK to be given the opportunity, space and motivation to develop their own love of reading”. Free kits are distributed to schools with information about the event and sponsor cards for pupils to make running the event easy.

In order for the event to be inclusive children are encouraged to read what interests them, from classics to comics. Pupils can choose to be sponsored per minute, per chapter, per page or per book depending on what motivates them. You can read more about Readathon and get involved on the Read for Good website.

Vital Work

As well as the annual event contributing to increasing literary standards in schools the money raised funds vital work.

20% of the money raised by a school goes back to them in the form of Scholastic Book Club vouchers allowing them to buy new books to stock their classrooms and libraries. The remainder goes towards providing books and story telling days for children in hospital, including at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital here in Devon which alone has received over 5000 books to date.

You can go here to donate to Read for Good or go here to sponsor a pupil involved in Readathon. We once again wish everyone involved the best of luck.
