Staff from Tekeurope recently participated in import/export and customs training. The course was bespoke and put together by a customs brokerage firm to address the specific needs of the business.

Team members from multiple departments including the warehouse, finance and sales took part due to the central role of importing and exporting in the day to day operations of the company. The training took place on site, in the company’s new training and meeting room.

The Role of International Trade

Whilst Tekeurope has many customers and suppliers within the United Kingdom, trading internationally plays an important role in the business. International suppliers offer increased options when it comes to the procurement of parts, with those connected to the manufacturers also potentially offering large cost savings.

On the sales side of the business the company has long standing customers both in Europe and throughout the wider world.

Course Content

To ensure customer deadlines are met it is essential that there is a smooth transition of goods across customs borders. This was a central aspect of the course, with emphasis placed on how to provide the correct information needed with consignments.  It covered the classification of goods and commodity codes as well as customs declarations.

Wider aspects of the subject area were also covered, providing new information for some staff and a refresher for others. There was a look at general customs terminology and the rules regarding  the valuation and origin of goods. With the UK legacy customers system CHIEF set to be replaced by CDS, the differences between the 2 systems were also highlighted.

Renewed Importance Post Brexit

With a substantial number of customers and suppliers within the European Union it is important ensure compliance with the rules surrounding the new customs border. The training ensured staff were aware of new regulations, underlying our commitment to our European customers that orders will continue to be fulfilled without delays or issues.

Our online shop continues to send items delivery duty paid, with customs charges and duty paid by Tekeurope.  This means shoppers will only pay what is displayed at checkout, with no hidden fees on delivery.
